SHE AND I

There she stood
Her gaze scrutinizing my face
Not but inches from
Where I was.
Her features dimmed
Due to improper lighting,
Yet, with each freckle prominent,
Her hair in a disarray,
Each strand visible to the naked eye,
Her dark eyes steady,
Eyebrows furrowed in deep thought,
She stood there uncertainly.
With a comb, she set her hair,
Turned the tap,
Splashed water on her face,
Dried herself,
Then a liner lighted her eyes
And after a dab or two
Of creams, powders and colours,
She looked up at me
For confirmation.
We both nodded.
With that she straightened her clothes,
Straightened her back,
Held up her chin
And smiled.
Only I could read her eyes:
“Who cares about you?”
They seemed to say,
“All they want is me.”
Hence,
I turned my back to the mirror

And walked away.

A Stormy Sonnet

Throw! Throw! Throw it down!
Wail and shriek and roar!
Then laugh, laugh, laugh it out!
Thunder upon the door!
Run! Jump! Slip and spring
Down from the gloomy grey!
Then Flash! Crash! Flash and burn
The sky bright today!
Leave them drowning in the cold,
Trembling upon their fate untold!
Then slide your liquid tresses down!
Dusken the world of a doubtful dawn!
Shimmer! Make them shiver! Shudder

Till you’re a drizzle and finally gone!

Death-By-Chocolate

Lost in the sea of chocolate,
Drowning in molten delight,
Soothing, ecstatic pleasures
And a sugar-filled sight.
Silky! So smooth a magnet,
It entraps you in its liquid arms.
Sweet, too sweet!
Breathless, skin too warm,
And Devils creep inside your guts,
Willing you to surface for air,
A desire for spice,
A survival instinct lies there
In the bubble of claustrophobia,
You reach out and swim! But wait!
This is chocolate!
You smile, relax and let the burning lights dim.

Sandy Shores

Soft, sinking sand of silt
Under bare feet did cower and wilt
And buried them like some tomb-like quilt
As I slowly stepped to the water’s hilt.
Quite often, when I came here along,
The waves would thrash for hours long
And dance to some strange faerie song.
However, this day, something seemed wrong.
I knew it the moment I saw the beach,
From the silence and the gull’s painful screech
To the distant sky of gloomy peach,
For when I, the water’s edge, did reach,
All was still, no wind, no tide,

As if magic was banished, compelled to hide.
